Unless trained otherwise, dogs, especially puppies and adolescents, are noisy and active. What else is new? Characteristically, dogs bark excessively and hyperactively jump-up and pull on-leash. Owners need to learn how to teach their dogs that short calm and quiet moments are the name of the game — a reliable Sit or Down-Stay will prevent, or terminate, virtually any kind of unwanted activity. Most important though, owners should put their dogs activity-problems on cue and teach their dogs to Woof/Shush, Jazz-up/Settle Down, Hug/Sit Stay and to Pull/Walk on-leash, i.e., to teach their dogs when it is appropriate and acceptable for them to be noisy and active and when they should be calm and collected.
